A protected plant or animal as a souvenir? Know your boundaries.

An ivory statue, snake leather bag or a beautiful piece of coral. At foreign destinations or online, they are free to buy, but they are not always allowed to cross the border. Know your limit. Almost everyone is aware or unconsciously in touch with CITES and the rules in force. But by no means everybody knows what these rules contain, what are their obligations and what the consequences are of breaking the rules. Without the correct paper inspectors can take your belongings. For some souvenirs, an exception applies. In the Netherlands, the RVO.nl provides the right documents.

Knowing more? Come and see some beautiful specimens of protected species on our stand at the Westerkade. RVO. and Customs are waiting for you and are happy to inform you about the CITES regulations. These regulations are necessary for the survival of globally vulnerable species, animals and plants, but also parts or products thereof.
